Major Concern

Habitat Loss

Mining operations causing fragmentation of habitat along San Jacinto River

Protect Local Biodiversity

Mining causes a huge loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services. The riparian habitat along the Colorado River is extremely important to the environment. Clearing this area of vegetation and destroying the topsoil would be an irreversible consequence to the local flora and fauna.

Different species such as the Houston Toad (Bufo houstonensis), Bald Eagle, and Blue Sucker (Cycleptus elongatus)are on the endangered species list or of conservation concern and would be affected by the aggregate industry.
